Saturday 4th November 2006.

Today, the song that I have had in my head has been "Go West" by The Village People.

'Tis bonfire night tomorrow and yet the fireworks have been going off in Erdington for the last few weeks. What with Eid and shops selling them for the last couple of months.
When I was younger I lived in Wylde Green and my parents got to be really friendly with the neighbours as they all had something in common - young families. A lot of them took us under their wing when my Dad had a heart attack on holiday but that's another post.
Anyway, the families in our road used to take in turns hosting bonfire night. The family who hosted it provided the bonfire and the food, everyone else supplied the fireworks. The party went on for hours. Good times. Now, everyone seems to have their own private party or go to an organised one.
Two wonderful bonfire nights I remember especially when I was a lot older. Being taken to one in Cookham - goodness, wonderful display and romance, holding hands, feeling safe and anticipation.
The other was at one of my sisters who lived in Mitcham. She always had a firework do but one year the weather was incredibly mild, we stayed outside chatting for hours

Travel on the bus doesn't change - I would like to leave a message to the "woman" I sat next to the other day. Either lose weight, cross your legs or pay double fare 'cos I don't appreciate being squashed!
